Lesson Plans
OUR FIRST LIFE GROUP! January 13, 2008Our hearts were made for community. We hunger for the deep, authentic relationships Jesus had in mind when he prayed: “that they may all be one” (John 17:21). Yet even within the Antioch congregation where relationships define who we are as a church family we long for deeper connections with God and each other. We began our Life Group Ministry last Sunday with a record-breaking “Sunday Evening” attendance: - 457 Christians met in 29 homes! I know that there are a few who still say: “it’s not for me.” With all respect to our opinions, Jesus said otherwise. It is for you. It is for every child of God. It is what the world craves but only the church can provide. It is the heart of Jesus’ prayer in John 17:21. And we will never become the Lord’s church without it. There is a time for plenary worship – a time for us to come together as the body of Christ and offer our praise and thanksgiving. There is a time for Bible class – a time to meet together to dig deep into God’s Word examining the Scriptures. And there is a time for us to deepen our relationship with our Lord, each other, and our neighbor – a time and a place to provide the kind of life-giving community that builds and empowers the body of Christ and impacts the world. And only a small group connection can provide that kind of “community.” One more thought: we need you. I’m not using it as some kind of cliché. We really need you. God has uniquely revealed Himself to you through your life’s experience and your presence in a small group is indispensable. No one can take your place. Even if you believe you don’t need a small group; please know this: “your fellow Christians need you.” Join us and help us grow closer to the Lord, each other, and our neighbors. ~ Brother Whit Want more? Love one another deeply, from the heart . . . I Peter 1:22
The word "church" is not limited to services and activities that take place within the church building.
Church refers to the group of people. It can indicate a large group (Acts 4:4; 5:11-14) as well as a small group (Matthew 18:20). In our own number, many find a meaningful church experience in a small group setting.
Small groups meet in casual settings, and provide an opportunity for individual members to become better connected, to grow spiritually, to pray for one another, to find accountability, to promote congregational unity, and to ask questions about Christianity or concepts from our worship assemblies. Every Life Group is first accountable to God, then to Antioch's Shepherds and Antioch's mission.
